German Present and Past Tense Rules

Hello everyone! Let's simplify German's Present Tense (Präsens) and Past Tense (Perfekt). It's straightforward!

The Präsens describes current actions or habits. You simply change the verb ending for the subject. Example: Ich lerne Deutsch. (I learn German.)

The Perfekt is for completed past actions, common in spoken German. Form it with haben (to have) or sein (to be) plus the main verb's Partizip II (past participle). Example: Ich habe Deutsch gelernt. (I have learned German.)

Practice consistently, and these rules will quickly become natural!
