Forms of Comparison – Explanation of Comparative and Superlative

Hi everyone! Today we'll learn how to compare things in German, meaning how to correctly use "more" and "most". This topic is very important and fun!

In German, there are two main forms of comparison: Comparative and Superlative. The Comparative is used to say one thing is "more" than another. We simply add -er to the end of the adjective. For example, klein (small) becomes kleiner (smaller).

The Superlative indicates that something is the "most" of everything. For this, we usually use am and add -sten to the end of the adjective. For instance, klein (small) becomes am kleinsten (smallest). Knowing these forms makes speaking much easier. With lots of practice, you'll master them quickly!
