Time Sequence – “zuerst”, “dann”, “danach”, “zum Schluss”

Hello everyone! Today, we'll learn how to express the sequence of events in German. These useful words will make your sentences much clearer.

We begin with zuerst, meaning "first of all," for your initial action. Then comes dann, which means "then," for the next step. Danach also translates to "after that," similar to dann but sometimes slightly more formal. To conclude a series of actions, we use zum Schluss, meaning "in the end" or "finally."

For instance: Zuerst stehe ich auf. Dann frühstücke ich. Danach gehe ich zur Arbeit. Zum Schluss gehe ich schlafen. Practice these, and you'll soon get the hang of it!
