What is the Dative Case in German?

Hello everyone! Today we'll learn about the Dative case in German. The Dative shows to whom or for what an action is directed, acting as the indirect object. Think of it as "to whom" or "for whom" in English. For instance, in "Ich gebe dem Mann ein Buch" (I give a book to the man), "dem Mann" is Dative. In this case, noun articles change: masculine der becomes dem, feminine die becomes der, and neuter das also becomes dem. Plural die becomes den, often with an added 'n'. Verbs like helfen (to help) and geben (to give) always require the Dative. Mastering the Dative is key for forming correct German sentences. You'll get it with practice!
